President of India Approves Appointment of Nominees to JNU Executive Council

Honourable President of India, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind has approved the appointment of four nominees to Executive Council of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Registrar of JNU, Mr. Pramod Kumar, gave the official information regarding the same. An official letter to appoint the Visitor’s (President of India) nominees was forwarded last week. The tenure of the nominees will begin from the date of the receipt of the letter.

The following are the nominated Executive Council (EC) members: -

  • Mr. Manroop Singh Meena – Principal of Government Girls College (Dholpur)
  • Mr. Naresh Padha of Jammu University
  • Mr. Mazhar Asif – Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University
  • Former HOD of Political Science Department at Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma

Mr. Mazhar Asif, who was previously associated with Gauhati University, is on the lien with JNU and formal consent of his appointment is a part of agenda of Executive Council meeting that will take place on November 23, 2017.

Recently, the High Court of Delhi stayed the two notifications issued by JNU. The eligibility criteria mentioned in these two notifications are arbitrary. These notifications made M.Phil as the mandatory criterion for seeking admission to the Ph.D. course. According to the observation made the court, the varsity violated the admission norms. However, no final decision has been delivered by the court in this regard, and the matter was posted for the next hearing on February 26, 2018.

Recently, JNU has achieved another milestone by receiving A++ grade from National Assessment and Accreditation Council. JNU also showed top performance in NIRF Rankings 2017.
