President Pranab Mukherjee urged the people of India to educate themselves. He sais that Swachh Bharat will not be possible until and unless the people don’t accomplish the Saakshar Bharat abhiyan. He explains Swachh Bharat and Saakshar Bharat as two sides of the same coin and says that education is necessary to make India clean. He said that joint efforts will be required by both government and private bodies to make India both clean and 100% literate.
Apart from emphasising on literacy and education in the country, he also said that various factors like cleanliness, environmental consciousness, responsibility to the neighbours, inculcating core civilisational values are also required to achieve any goal.
He also talked about how people are still illiterate in the country despite of the various efforts made by the government.
President Pranab Mukherjee not only asked the people to contribute but also called for joint action from the government, NGOs, local bodies, volunteers. He also said that one of the most important steps towards their literacy goal is the right to education act.
President Pranab Mukherjee also agreed with the thoughts of both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar. He said that Javadekar’s idea of promoting ‘each one, teach one’ is a very important aspect and Narendra Modi government’s mantra of “reaching the unreached” will go a long way in adding to the goal of fully literate India.
