President Ramnath Kovind to Inaugurate AMU’s Centenary Celebrations

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is all set to mark its centenary celebrations next year in December. President Ramnath Kovind is to inaugurate the celebration at the University. Numerous programmes will be held during the celebrations. 

AMU Centenary Celebrations

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is going to mark its centenary celebrations on 17th December 2020. For this, the varsity has invited Indian President, Ramnath Kovind to inaugurate the celebrations.

While planing out the elaborated programme of the celebrations in a consultative meeting, Prof Tariq Mansoor, Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University informed that the President of India has already been sent a formal notice for the inauguration. Prof Tariq Mansoor also informed the members in the meeting that the university will be requesting UGC (University Grants Commission) to grant INR 20 crores to support various programmes to be held during the occasion.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University also requested university alumni and staff to generate funds for the celebration. To initiate the fund generation process, Prof Mansoor directed the Finance Officer to deduct INR 50,000 from his salary to contribute to the event. He said that the university is also reaching out to other funding agencies and organisations to provide funds for the celebrations.

In order to make the celebration memorable, AMU will be publishing a coffee table book that will include all the notable achievements of the University over the last century. Other than that, different departments of studies will be holding a series of lectures. In fact, various eminent scholars will also be invited to talk about the historical evolution of the University.

The university will also be organising an Alumni Meet and will publish a World Alumni Directory as a part of the celebration. AMU has also planned to construct a Centenary Gate on the pattern of Bab-e-Syed. The budget of the project is estimated to be INR 5 to 6 crores. Apart from the gate, it will also be constructing a centenary Alumni Guest House under the same budget. Reading Halls at Women’s College premises and at Maulana Azad Library will also be constructed.

The university will be providing a lot of additional facility for the better future of the varsity. With this staggering celebration in December next year, AMU will complete its 100 years in the world of higher education.
