The Panjab University popularly known as PU invited Former (GoC-In-C) Western Command Chandimandir Lt-Gen K. J. Singh, PVSM, AVSM (BAR) (retd) to come and join the Chair of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. This chair belongs to the department of defence and national security. The invitation to join the chair was sent to the lieutenant general after syndicate approved it. Lt-Gen K. J. Singh very happily accepted the invitation and is also very excited to take control of the chair.

The reports show that no one ever presided over the chair since it was constituted so, the chair was given to the history department of Panjab University. But the chair was again transferred to the department of defence and national security and it was suggested that the chair can be given to a former military person. This was suggested by a committee that works under senior Senator RP Bambah and former Vice Chancellor.
