The state government of Punjab announced on Saturday, August 27 that all educational institutions run by the state will not charge any fee from the Scheduled Caste (SC) category students for admission as per the rules laid down for the post-matric scholarship scheme.
An official said that the decision has been taken so that SC category students are not discouraged, instead, they feel motivated to complete their higher.
He also informed that a direction has been sent to all the state-governed educational institutions in Punjab. Although this is a recent development, the rule will be implemented from the academic session 2016.
Government institutions of the state are bound to follow the rule because on failure to imply they will not be eligible for tax exemption according to the post-matric scholarship scheme.
