Registrations for Japanese Scholarship Scheme 2021 Begins, Apply Now

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan has initiated the registration process for MEXT Scholarship Scheme 2021. The interested candidates who wish to take up higher studies in Japan can apply for the MEXT Scholarship Scheme 2021. The MEXT 2021 scholarship is offered by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Those students who will be selected for the scholarship programme, they will receive a monthly stipend of 1,17,000 yen (approximately INR 81.5K per month).

The research students will receive an extra 2,000 yen or 3,000 yen in addition to the scholarship amount disclosed above. Airlines tickets will also be provided by the Japanese Government to the students who will be selected for the scholarship programme.

Eligibility for MEXT 2021 Undergraduate Scholarship: -

• The lower age limit for the applicants is 18 years.

• The upper age limit for the applicants is 21 years.

• The candidates should have completed and qualified Class 12 befor.e applying

• The candidates must have high scholastic achievement.

• The candidate must also be willing to learn the Japanese language before their arrival in Japan

• The candidates must have a student visa

The duration of the scholarship programme is 5 years, i.e from April 2021 to March 2026. if an undergraduate degree pursuing student wishes to enrol for a postgraduate degree programme within the duration of the scholarship period, then the scholarship benefits of that student will be extended for the PG degree study as well provided the student fulfils all the minimum eligibility criteria and has an outstanding academic record.

The deadline to apply for MEXT 2021 Undergraduate Scholarship is August 17th, 2020. The candidates need to download the application form and send or submit it to the regional consulate general of Japan. The application form is available for download on the official website of IN-EMB-Japan. These regional offices are located in Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and New Delhi.

Who is Eligible to Apply

The following category of students are eligible to apply for the MEXT 2021 scholarship programme -

• Students who want to pursue natural sciences, humanities or social sciences

• Students who want to opt for any engineering stream

• Students who wish to opt for specialised training colleges or who want to pursue courses in general education, culture, fashion, business, education & welfare, personal care & nutrition etc

MEXT 2021 Scholarship Programme - Selection Process

A screening test of all the applications and documents will be done by the Japanese Diplomatic Missions first. Thereafter, the students will be asked to appear in written examinations and interviews. Mathematics, English and Japanese papers will comprise the written test portion. Biology, Physics and Chemistry questions will also be asked from those who wish to pursue natural sciences.

Application Submission Guidelines: -

• Candidates belonging to Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal have to submit the applications at the Consulate General of Japan in Kolkata.

• Candidates belonging to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu must submit the applications at Consulate General of Japan in Chennai.

• Candidates belonging to Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Goa, Gujarat, and Maharashtra must submit the applications at Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai.

• Candidates belonging to Karnataka must submit the applications at Consulate General of Japan in Bangalore.

• Candidates belonging to other states must submit applications at Consulate General of Japan in New Delhi.
