The Sambalpur University (SU) will be joining hands with the Indian Institute Management, Sambalpur (IIM-S) in order to set up a skill centre in the university. Sanjiv Mittal, the Vice-Chancellor of SU, informed during the College Development Council (CDC) meeting held on February 1, Monday, that an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) will be signed between the two institutions shortly.
A total of 220 colleges are affiliated to Sambalpur University and out of those, the principals of about 200 institutions had participated in the meeting that was organised at the conference hall of the Department of MBA. The skill centre to be opened will help in building capacity apart from developing skills of youths of the region.
Sambalpur University will approach industries to fund the centre. The principals were also urged to look out for youths and artisans of their respective areas once the centre is established.

The Vice-Chancellor also informed that the examination procedure of Sambalpur University would be fully automated within the next year. He told discussions for the same has already been initiated with the NIC. The principals of all institutes present were also asked to develop infrastructure in their respective colleges at the earliest and they were assured that they will get help from the university for the same. Mittal revealed that a team has been formed that will pay surprise visits to the colleges in order to take stock.
The VC also laid emphasis on the punctuality of faculty members in all the colleges. He said that the university is ready to assist if any college requires help for academic development provided the faculties are punctual. The formed team will make surprise visits to check whether the colleges are sticking to their time-table.
