SBIHM Kolkata Organises Annual Food Festival in February 2020

SBIHM organized its annual food festival on 7th February 2020 focusing on the theme Modernity & Ethnicity in a Plate showcasing not only some delicious multi-cuisine preparations but also an amalgamation of stunning dance and music performances as well as informative discussions around food.

SBIHM Organises Annual Food Festival

Subhas Bose Institute of Hotel Management (SBIHM), Kolkata organized its annual college food festival on 7th February 2020. The SBIHM Food Festival is an annual event organized by the students of the institute. This year's event was organized by the students of Hotel and Hospitality Management stream along with 1st and 2nd-year students from other streams of SBIHM.

The theme of the 2020 SBIHM Food Festival was 'Modernity & Ethnicity in a Plate'. The event is an annual celebration organized with the aim of uniting communities through food and celebrations and is seen as a means of being thankful for a plentiful growing season. The event showcases a Food Story, focusing on the journey of food from once being seen as a necessity of life to now it being presented as a luxury.

A number of excellent performances by SBIHM students were part of the event and it also highlighted the changes that have been part of the journey of food. The event also made a statement on how several food items have still remained staple items on our plates even through times of social and economic changes.

Several dignitaries attended the event that was organized at organised at City Centre - I in Salt Lake City, Kolkata. Part of the guest list was Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, the Founder, CEO & Managing Director of Bandhan Bank, along with his wife Mrs. Nilima Ghosh, Mr. Nisheeth Srivastava the Principal of the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Kolkata, Shri. Subrata Mukherjee, Hon'ble Minister in Charge at the Panchayat & Rural Development, Govt. of West Bengal, Mr. Sagnik Chowdhury, Regional Director (East) at the Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India and movie actress Raima Sen. A number of other ministers and personalities associated with some of the top restaurants, industries and organizations of Kolkata were also a part of the event.

SBIHM Food Festival Programme 2020

The SBIHM Food Festival was kicked off by a dance performance by Moumita Podder, a student of the media science department at SBIHM, followed by a group dancing performance of Moumita and Deborshi Dutta.

Attendees of SBIHM Food Festival got to witness a number of excellent multi-ethnic performances by the students of SBIHM Kolkata alongside gaining insights through discussions conducted around the theme of the event. The HoDs of various departments at SBIHM also elaborated upon the scope of Hotel Management courses in India. Mrs. Bidisha Sarkar, the Group Director of SBIHM, also addressed the audience.

Part of the event was a number of stunning dance performances including Nepali Dance, Rajasthani and Bengali Folk Dances, and Western Dance. The audience also got to witness a Ramp Show as well as a Band Performance, all organized by students of various departments at SBIHM.

The event concluded with a rocking Western Hip-Hop performance by Abhyuday Majhi, a Bachelors in Travel and Tourism Management student.

Attendees of the SBIHM Food Festival also got to try a colourful and vibrant range of multi-cuisine dishes. The dishes on display during the event included Pastas, a variety of Salads including Thai Pomelo, Waldorf etc. Although the centrepiece of the event, the taste of the lip-smacking food at the event was only enhanced by the different flavours of Indian and Western cultural performances as well as informative discussions that one got to witness.
