The Ministry of Minority Affairs had increased the number of scholarship of school girls belonging to minority groups/communities by 15%. The subordinate organisation of the ministry- Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF) decided to increase the total budget of its one of the most popular Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship Scheme. The scheme was founded in the year 2003-04 to provide scholarships and support to a girl from minority communities.
Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship Scheme 2018 Eligibility:
- Only girl students belonging to minority groups- Muslims, Jains, Christians, Buddhists, Parsis and Sikhs are eligible for the same.
- The Scholarship will be awarded to girl students (minority groups) studying in class 9th to class 12th and have scored a minimum of 55% in the previous class.
- The annual income of the student’s parents/guardian should not be more than Rs.2 lakh per annum. The parents must also provide an income certificate issued by the State/ UTs. Also, the income certificate should be either in English/ Hindi/ Regional language
Note* While filling the application form students should keep in mind to fill one application form. If a student fills more than one application it will be rejected

Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship Scheme 2018 Selection Procedure:
- The selection of the candidate will be done on the basis of annual income of parents/guardians.
- Also, the administration will require the minimum aggregate in the previous exam as the selection process as there is a fixed number of scholarship only.
As per the reports, the ministry offered over 1,15,000 scholarship to girl students under the scheme and around Rs.78 crore were allocated for this. For this year, the Ministry of Minority Affairs is planning to have a budget of Rs. 90 crore.

They also said that there main aim to generate awareness regarding the scholarship. Apart from this, there are 300 Garib Nawaz Skill Development Centre that is run by MAEF all over the country. The centre offers girl students of class 9th and 10th are given a scholarship of Rs 5,000 per year and Rs.600 per year for the students of class 11th.
