The evaluation process of answer-sheets of electrical engineering stream of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has started. Two months back, the media had reported leakage of the paper, when a faculty member at Modern Education Society’s College of Engineering detected it.
Names of 14 students of the different colleges had cropped up in this connection and the University decided to withhold their names until the police inquiry is completed.
On 10th December 2016, it was reported that a faculty member of a college had discovered the question paper on the mobile phones of several first-year engineering students, about one hour before the commencement of the examination.
However, the exam was held as per schedule, but the official of the University instituted an inquiry and asked the college to file a FIR. During the course of the investigation by the authorities of the University, the name of Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology (VIIT) College had also cropped up, and the latter was told to file a police complaint.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Wasudeo Gade, admitted that a paper leak had taken place. He said that the exam results of all students involved would be kept on hold till the final report of the case is out. In a Board of Examinations meeting held this week, the University officials decided to evaluate the exam papers and declare the results as soon as possible.
Ashok Chavan, controller of examinations, SPPU said that the varsity has decided to declare the results soon since it will not be fair with regard to the other students who had prepared and appeared in the exam. After the papers are evaluated within a week, the varsity will declare the results. However, the results of the 14 students, who are reportedly involved and were questioned by police, will not be declared.
