SSC Vs CBSE: Maharashtra Needs to Decide on Internal Marks

Reflecting on the growing demand of parents of SSC Class 10 students for not to consider the internal marks of children from other boards while taking admission in 11th class in Maharashtra, the Maharashtra state government has decided to hold a talk with the centre on this topic.

The representatives of parents whose wards are in Maharashtra state board met the State Education Minister Mr. Vinod Tawde to request him to do away with the new policy of not adding the internal marks scored in Marathi and other subjects in the results which caused drastic fall in pass percentages of the students. They alleged that due to this new policy of not adding internal marks, the Maharashtra state board students are falling behind the competition with the students from other boards which is causing difficulties in securing admission in their desired colleges.

The delegates pointed out that the internal marks are helping to raise the overall percentage of CBSE and IB board. On the other hand, the decision of giving up on the internal mark assessment is affecting Maharashtra state board students.

On Tuesday, Vinod Tawde said that the central government was thinking on the topic whether to consider the internal marks of 10th in CBSE and IB or not for admissions in 11th standard.

Tawde assured the parents on the topic that their students will not face any difficulties to get admission in junior colleges as only 4% of the students from central boards like CBSE opt to join Junior Colleges.

He said to the media that many parents met him to complain that their children are falling behind the competition as they are not able to get admission in their desired colleges due to lesser marks in Maharashtra State SSC boards for the decision of giving up with adding the internal marks in total scores. But unlike Maharashtra state board, other boards are continuing with the practice of adding the internal marks in final results.
