St Stephen's College to give 15% Weightage to Interviews for Admission

St. Stephen’s College has announced that it will give 15% weightage to the interview and the remaining 85% weightage to the CUET score for UG admission 2022-23. Delhi University is accepting admissions based on candidates' scores on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).

St. Stephen’s College has been conducting personal interview rounds for shortlisting candidates for admission to its various Undergraduate courses. The college principal, John Varghese did not show any indication of making any change to the shortlisting format yet as per reports from PTI. The admission will proceed in the same manner for the academic year 2022-23 if no information is disclosed by the college.

The Delhi University and the St. Stephen’s College (DU) have been at loggerheads. The former expects the latter to only accept CUET score for admission to all its courses. However, the latter disapproves and insists to follow the ratio of 85-15% of CUET and Personal Interview. St. Stephen’s College has also posted the same selection process on the official website last month for the 2022-23 admission for both reserved and unreserved categories.

However, Delhi University wants the college to conduct personal interviews for admission of the reserved category students only. Unreserved category students should be exempt from the interviews, and direct CUET scores should be considered for admission. The university has written to the college to follow the Executive Council resolution to take admission for the general or unreserved seats.

On this, St. Stephen’s College claims that it is a minority institution, and holds the right to make decisions regarding admission on its own terms. In this matter, the University has taken a legal recourse to resolve the matter.
