The Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK)-affiliated colleges in the division are yet to comply with the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) reaccreditation. D R More, the director of the SUK's BCUD on Monday said that these colleges need to comply with norms at the earliest to be eligible for various grants.
Dr.More, "The university has been reminding these colleges about compliance, but we have not received the response we had anticipated in the last six months. The university will soon hold a meeting with the principals of these colleges and make them aware about possible consequences of not sending information to the UGC and other designated officials. The BCUD director said that almost all aided colleges are done with assessment, but unaided are yet to comply."
The SUK had held an awareness workshop for unaccredited colleges on NAAC evaluation in January last year. Jagannath Patil, the NAAC's acting advisor and president of the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (APQN) had delivered the expert's guidance at the event. The University Grants Commission (UGC) set up NAAC as an autonomous body to assess and accredit higher education institutes in the country.
" There are as many as 135 added and 145 unaided colleges in the division. "The unaided educational institutes will have to undergo assessment from NAAC or any equivalent body in future as schemes such as Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) require at least an 'A' grade from NAAC. Those colleges which are done with the accreditation process five years previously will also have to prepare for the reaccreditation process."
