The Shivaji University, Kolhapur (SUK) has introduced new scholarships for its postgraduate (PG) students in the campus from the upcoming 2016-17 academic year. These scholarships will only be awarded to those students who have not received any other scholarship.
D R More, the director of the university's Board of Colleges and University Development (BCUD), said that details regarding the new scheme are still being finalised and committees have been formed for the same.
He added that the management council has approved the scheme and a few other additional initiatives. On the scholarship's funding, More told that the university will be giving away the scholarships from its own funds. It is likely that a student from each department will be selected for the scholarship. On the possible amount of the financial assistance, More said that the research amount of Rs 5,000 to 10,000 will be granted to the selected students.
An SUK research scholar said that the initiative is worth appreciating, as there are many students who generally do not get financial assistance for their projects or are unaware about available funding schemes.
"We have asked all PG departments in the campus to send information regarding the students who have not got any previous scholarships during their PG academic career. The details regarding the scheme will be out soon and we are preparing a blueprint of the scheme."
