Tamil Nadu School Holiday Update 28 October 2025: The Cyclonic Storm "Montha" is currently situated over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal. As of 2:30 AM IST on October 27, 2025, the storm is centered approximately 600 km east-southeast of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is expected to move west-northwestwards over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal for the next 12 hours, followed by a northwestward and then north-northwestward movement. The storm is likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by the morning of October 28, 2025, and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam around Kakinada during the evening or night of October 28 as a severe cyclonic storm with maximum sustained wind speeds of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.

Due to this storm, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall, strong surface winds, and rough sea conditions on October 28, 2025. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over Tiruvallur district, while heavy rain is expected at isolated places over Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Chennai, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari districts, as well as the Ghat areas of Tirunelveli district. Strong surface winds and rough sea conditions are also forecast, with fishermen being advised not to venture into the sea.
