Most of the colleges of Telangana announced an indefinite strike from September 15, 2025, over fee reimbursement dues from the government.

Telangana Colleges Holiday 15 September 2025: To protest against the pending reimbursement of fees, the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Institutions, on behalf of the engineering, degree, and pharma colleges of the state, has decided to shut the Telangana colleges since September 15, 2025, for an indefinite time. As promised earlier, the government of Telangana has not yet released the dues for some parts. For the same, the TGCHE Chairman, Balasikta Reddy, and Secretary Venkatesh Sriram met the management of the Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education (FATHI), and they were directed to circulate the notice on the closing of colleges.
The reimbursement of tuition fee (RTF) for the reserved category candidates and minor students has been pending for a long time, which amounts to thousands of crores. As per the report, many technical colleges have been solely dependent on RTF for survival. Hence, the college management brought up the issue of releasing 12 crore dues immediately with the budgetary allocations and with the establishment of the Fee Funding Bank. However, the government did not take any action or respond till now.
This repercussion pushed the Telangana colleges to close the colleges, since it's hard to deal with the prolonged financial crisis, staff and faculty remuneration (that too for the last few months). Consequently, the teachers are now not agreeing to fulfil their duties as well, and the students are getting affected by the same.
Nonetheless, without addressing the issue, the government has organized a meeting with the vice chancellors to implement the facial recognition-based attendance system. In this regard, the victims mentioned that September 15, 2025, is marked as the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visveswaraya, which will also be considered as the black day to register their protest. Also, there is a chance of observing a strike by the degree and post-graduate colleges on September 16, 2025, for issuing the long-overdue fees.
