Telangana Colleges Shutdown: Over 2,000 private professional and degree colleges in Telangana will remain closed from September 15 onwards. Federation of Associations of Telangana Higher Education (FATHI) has called for an indefinite strike against the Telangana government's delay in releasing fee reimbursement dues. The association demanded the release of Rs. 1,800 crore fee reimbursement dues by September 21 and resolve the matter as early as possible. If the Government fails to clear the dues, the association will call for a huge protest that will include lakhs of students and faculty of various private colleges. Due to the delay in releasing the fee reimbursement dues, many colleges are struggling financially and some colleges are not able to pay salaries to the faculty. Therefore, an indefinite strike has been called from September 15 onwards. So far, there is no response from the government.

Telangana Colleges Shutdown from September 15: What does it mean?

  • As per the strike call given by FATHI, students will not attend college. This strike applies to all private engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA and degree colleges
  • Colleges will not send buses and the gates shall be locked
  • Instead of observing September 15 as 'Engineers Day', FATHI asked colleges to consider it as a 'Black Day' and shut down their operations completely
  • FATHI set September 21 as the deadline for the Telangana Government to release the fee reimbursement dues
  • FATHI demanded the release of a new GO (Government Order) by September 30, through which the government must commit to releasing the fee reimbursement every academic year (in a regular manner)
  • If the government fails to pay the reimbursement dues, FATHI will organise a protest on September 23 and 24. Lakhs of students will participate in it
  • In all, all Telangana Private Colleges will remain closed on September 15 , and if there is no response from the Government by the evening of September 15, the strike shall continue further
