Telangana Govt. to Conduct Entrance Exams in Three Languages

The Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) has decided to conduct Common Entrance Tests (CETs) in three languages. This year, all the CETs will be conducted in English, Telugu and Urdu languages. While Telugu and English were the common mediums of instruction, Urdu is the latest addition. This year, all the CETs will be conducted in online mode. TSCHE has already issued official dates for all the Telangana CETs.

Since TSCHE has only two months time to hold eight CETs, the council is looking for subject experts in the Urdu language across the country. Urdu has been declared as the second common language in Telangana. Chief Minister of Telangana has directed TSCHE to conduct all the entrance exams in the Urdu language apart from English and Telugu.

TSCHE will ensure common question paper in all the three languages. The question papers will be prepared in English and the same will be translated into Telugu and Urdu. However, the council is facing difficulty in finding Urdu language experts who could translate the questions with the correct meaning.

This year, students registering for entrance exams for the admission to various professional courses can choose any one language from three options.

TSCHE has also decided to hold a common PGCET (Post Graduate Common Entrance Test) for all the state-run universities across the state. Until last year, universities conducted their own PGCET for the admission. This year, Osmania University will take the responsibility of conducting common PGCET for all the universities. The seat allocation will be based on merit, student preference and availability of seats.
