Telangana Govt. to Set Up Two New Medical Colleges

The state government of Telangana has approved the proposal to set up two new medical colleges in the state. On May 22, 2018, Chief Minister of Telangana, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao approved the plan by signing the proposal from Medical and Health Department, Telangana. The decision taken by the state government of Telangana will help meritorious medical aspirants to pursue medical education in the state.

The new medical colleges approved by the state government will come up in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts of Telangana. According to sources, each of these colleges will offer 150 seats in MBBS course. Along with the construction of two new medical colleges, the state government will also upgrade the facilities at the existing government hospitals in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts.

The construction of two new medical colleges will take at least two years. The state government has assigned the responsibility of getting MCI approval for new medical colleges to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences. After the MCI approval, the authorities will initiate the budgetary allocation of these colleges.

The state government of Telangana will sanction Rs. 500 crore to each college for the establishment of new buildings. Out of the total budget, Rs. 450 crore will be spent on capital expenditure and the rest of the amount will be utilized to gather the workforce. The college infrastructure will meet the norms prescribed by MCI.

The approval of new medical colleges is a tremendous boost to the medical education in Telangana. At present, there are only four medical colleges in the state. Establishment of new colleges will give an opportunity to more aspirants pursue medical education in the state.
