  • Telangana state has about 4.10 lakh seats vacant in the UG colleges this year.

Telangana Govt. to Slash One Lakh Seats in Private and Government Degree Colleges

The Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) is in plans to slash over one-lakh seats in various private and government degree colleges across the state. Considering the huge number of seats remaining vacant in many colleges, the state government has decided to reduce the intake. According to the statistics released by TSCHE, the following number of seats remained vacant over the years in 1,092 UG colleges across the state: -

According to the statistics, the number of seats in UG courses has been increasing gradually while the number of students opting for them has been decreasing. Therefore, TSCHE has come to a consensus that increasing the intake for the next academic session is of no use and it is time to slash the number of seats considering the records of previous academic years. The Council will soon convene a meeting with the managements of various private degree colleges and finalise the seat reduction for the next academic session.

Currently, there are six universities in the state to which 1,092 UG colleges are affiliated. The TSCHE has directed the varsities to close the courses that have less than 25% enrollment. The rule is applicable to both government and private affiliated colleges. Students who have joined the courses will be shifted to the nearest colleges.
