TSBIE has revised the Mathematics paper pattern for the MEC stream from the 2026–27 session, introducing 80 marks for theory and 20 for internal assessments. The Board also shared updates on 2026 exam dates and new syllabus plans.
TG Inter MEC Stream Mathematics Question Paper Format to be ChangedTG Inter MEC Mathematics Paper Pattern Revised: The Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) has introduced a revised paper pattern in Maths for the 2026–27 academic year in the MEC (Mathematics, Economics, Commerce) Stream. The reform is to make the evaluation more comprehensive by integrating theoretical with activity-based internal assessment.
The theory examination in
Mathematics will be 80 marks, and the rest 20 marks are for the internal assessment
under the new system. This is a significant shift from the existing system, which assigned all 100 marks to the written exam. Internal marks inclusion is a way to motivate continuous learning and relieve examination pressure for the students.

As per the modified pattern, Mathematics Paper–IIA and Paper–IIB will have separate three sections each with a total duration of three hours.
- Section A will contain 10 very short answer questions; each of 2 marks, the total marks being 20.
- Section B will have 5 short-answer type questions (out of 7), each question will be of 4 marks, total of 20 marks.
- Section C will contain 5 long-answer type questions (out of 7). Each question is of 7 marks, total of 35 marks.
The newly introduced 20-mark internal assessment in each subject will be activity-based, promoting practical learning and continuous evaluation. Projects that may involve a writing aspect can be assignments, project work, or classroom participation. These are to be evaluated from time to time by the teachers throughout the year.
TSBIE Secretary Krishna Aditya mentioned that the syllabus of science subjects will also be completely changed in the academic year 2026-27, as the last revision was made in 2013-14. “This updation after 12 long years makes the curriculum more relevant to contemporary learning needs.” The Board is also collaborating with the School Education Department to include QR codes in textbooks, which will facilitate access to learning content.
The Inter Board has also announced the date sheet for the next Examination session 2026. The practical exams will be conducted from February 3 to 20, 2026 , and the annual exams from February 25 to March 18, 2026 . The detailed subject-wise timetable will be issued next week. The process of paying examination fees will start from November 1 .
