The term end examinations of Indira Gandhi National Open University will be held from June 1 to June 28. About 9,000 students will appear in more than 260 academic programmes of the open university.
IGNOU regional director (Lucknow) Manorama Singh said 24 examination centres had been established in Lucknow Region for these examination. Four examination centres have been established at Central Jail, Bareilly, District Jail, Jhansi, District Jail, Barabanki and Model Jail, Lucknow, where only jail inmates who have taken admissions to various programmes will appear in the examination.
In Lucknow, the examination centres are at JNPG College, Christian Degree College and National PG College.
GNOU Regional Centre, Lucknow commenced its functioning with one study centre under its supervision at Jai Narain Degree College, Lucknow. In 1987, major expansion took place when 09 LSCs were established in important cities such as Allahabad, Agra, Bareilly, Dehradun, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Sultanpur and Haldwani. The expansion continued and in the next 10 years, the number of Learner Support Centre rose to 50 by the year 2000. The first centre in Jail was established at Model Jail, Lucknow in year 2000.
The Regional Centre has undergone tremendous growth in terms of enrolment and number of learner support centres during the last 27 years. Presently, there are 50 active study centres covering 31 districts of Uttar Pradesh. A Tele Learning Centre (TLC) was also established at Regional Centre, which has been converted into a Regional Centre Lab (RCL). It functions for about 12 hours a day catering to about 500 students of BCA & MCA.
