UG Courses Syllabus to be Revamped in Telangana

Telangana degree colleges are expected to implement revised syllabus for UG courses from 2019-20. The new syllabus will give more emphasis to spoken and communication skills and industry-related skills besides minimising the overlapping of the topics.

UG Courses Syllabus to be Revamped in Telangana

The Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE) is all set to revamp the syllabus of UG courses offered by colleges and universities across the state. The council is planning to implement the revamped syllabus for UG courses from the upcoming academic session i.e., 2019-20.

According to sources, 80% of the revamped syllabus will have uniformity while 20% of the syllabus will be university-specific. The University Grants Commission (UGC) will provide a framework for changing the syllabi of UG courses. The new syllabus will give more emphasis to spoken and communication skills and industry-related skills besides minimizing the overlapping of the topics.

Recently, Union HRD Ministry convened a meeting with VCs of all universities. During the meeting, the HRD Ministry favoured changing the existing syllabus of UG courses. The ministry further directed the UGC and universities to initiate the process of revamping UG syllabus.

TSCHE will soon hold workshops with VCs of state universities to discuss the changes that are required in the syllabus of UG courses. TSCHE will also constitute subject wise expert committees to recommend changes in the syllabus.

The previous revision of UG syllabus in Telangana was done in 2016. The council implemented CBCS (Choice-based Credit System) for UG courses in 2016. The revamped syllabus of UG courses will be in tune with the CBCS system.

Chairperson of TSCHE, Professor Papi Reddy explained that the new syllabus of various UG courses would be in line with industry requirements. The new syllabus will be implemented for the first-year degree students. The process for revision of syllabus will begin as soon as UGC sends framework for the same, he confirmed.

TSCHE Chairperson also urged UGC to increase grants for colleges and universities. UGC grants are necessary for the effective implementation of the revamped syllabus.
