- Among the 24 fake universities in India, eight universities are in the national capital Delhi.
- As per UGC, fake universities are not entitled to award degrees.
The UGC (University Grants Commission) has released a new list of 24 self-styled and fake universities in India. Surprisingly, eight out of 24 fake universities are located in Delhi. As per UGC, these universities do not have UGC recognition, and they are functioning in contravention of UGC Act. Therefore, these universities are declared fake and are not authorised to award degrees.

According to UGC Act 1956, only those universities established under a Central/ State/ Provincial Act are authorised to award degrees. Similarly, deemed universities recognised by UGC are also eligible to offer courses and award degrees.
