As per the official notification, the UPSC Civil Services 2017 Preliminary exam date to be out on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. Aspiring candidates have to submit the application form by May 17, 2017. The Preliminary examination will be held on 18 June 2017. After the declaration of the result, the main examinations will be held from 10 October 2017.

Every year, several lakhs student appear in the examination. The exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission to select candidates for different All India Services like IAS, IFS, IPSm IRT etc. The result of this year's Civil Service Examination was supposed to be declared in the middle of January.

The results of the mains examination 2016 have been delayed due to confusion over an essay topic. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Personnel said that several representations from candidates of civil services (main) examination 2016 were received by the UPSC. They stated that the Hindi translation of the essay topic did not present the same meaning as the English version of the essay.

The commission is yet to announce any date but as per the trends of the previous years, the result would be declared within few days. The commission had declared the result last year on 19th February 2016. Candidates can see the result of the examination on the official website of the commission once it is declared. The main exam was conducted from December 3 and December 9, 2016.

The preliminary test consists of two papers, i.e. general studies and objective type questions. In the objective type question paper, multiple choice questions are asked to test the analytical skills of candidates. The paper carries a total of 400 marks. The general studies paper comprises of questions based on general knowledge and current affairs. The candidate has to qualify with minimum 33 per cent marks.
