US, UK and Australia Top Education Destinations for Indian Parents & Students: HSBC Report

HSBC conducted a survey to find out favourite countries for higher education for parents and students. The US dominated the list with 52% preference.

US, UK and Australia Top Education Destinations for Indian Parents & Students: HSBC Report

According to research conducted by HSBC, the UK, the US and Australia are regarded as top destinations for higher education for Indian students and parents. Almost 44% of parents in India want their children to study in top educational institutes/universities across the UK, US and Australia. Parents prefer overseas education for children due to excellent job opportunities, improvement of language skills and gain international work experience.

Indian Parents Preference for Overseas Education to their Children

As per the HSBC report, the preference for overseas education from Indian students and parents is as follows –

The US topped the chart with the highest per cent of preference from Indian parents for higher education to their children. Apart from the above three countries, the following are the other top education destinations for higher education for Indian parents and students –

  • Canada
  • Japan
  • Germany
  • Switzerland
  • Singapore
  • New Zealand
  • Austria

42% of parents who took part in the HSBC survey revealed that the major challenge they face is the higher cost of education in various countries. Contrastingly, the similar opinion was mentioned by 65% of parents in the US, 64% in Australia and 63% in the UK. However, parents are often attracted to lucrative job offers due to international work experience and language skills.

Almost 10,478 parents and 1,507 students from 15 countries participated in the HSBC survey and expressed their views.
