Utkal University installed Micro Spectrometer on the occasion of National Science Day 2020. The Spectrometer is worth Rs. 1.5 Crore and it was installed in the Physics department laboratory for research work.

Due to the lack of enough space for installation, the device was kept idle in the university since December 2017. Last year, the Office of the Accountant General had asked the vice-chancellor of Utkal University to give comments on the procurement of the device without the plan for installation.

The university had approved the proposal to procure the device from funds provided by Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan in March 2017.

Micro Spectrometer will be used for research in Physics, Chemistry, Biological science, and Medicine. It can be used for the characterization of the material, detecting explosives and generating fingerprints of the universe.

The room was inaugurated by the Vice-Chairman of Odisha state higher education, Asoka Kumar Das, through the installation of equipment. The Vice-chancellor of the university and the teachers of the institute were also present at the inauguration.

The university vice-chancellor Mr. Patnaik said that the equipment will help the postgraduate students and researchers to carry their research activities in the fire of physics, medicine, chemistry, biology, material science as well as geological studies. The research scholars from other government universities and institute can also access the equipment.
