Attending the foundation stone ceremony of a non-residential building at the campus of Nalanda University, on Wednesday, 1st March 2017, Vice Chancellor, Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar said that the University will inspire its students to fulfill all the expectations of the society.
In his speech, he said that they wish to make this prestigious University an institution which not only offers degrees to students but also inspires them to fulfill the expectations of the community and society by working for them.

It was in January 2017 that Mr. Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar was appointed as the VC of Nalanda University by President Pranab Mukherjee. He replaced VC Gopa Sabharwal and will hold the office for a period of three years.
An alumni of IIT Delhi, he also studied in Sir Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur and Vadodara-based MS University.
Bhaktar is a technocrat by profession and is regarded as the father of Indian Supercomputer. He was the man behind the development of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, better known as C-DAC in Pune. Under his initiative, India built Param 8000 and Param 10,000 in 1991 and 1998 respectively. A recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan award, he has served in the governing board of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and as a member of Scientific Advisory Committee in the Cabinet of the central government.

Nalanda Central University was established in 2010. Spreading over 443 acres areas the, the University houses well-furnished academic and administrative block, library, lecture hall and an auditorium.
