Vice President of India, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu attended the 8th convocation ceremony of GITAM University on November 18, 2017. Addressing the students, honourable Vice President of India expressed that he was disturbed by some incidents that have been taking place in a few universities across the country.

He added that students should not encourage those activities on the campus that will put the Indian democracy at stake. Even though people have freedom of expression, there is a need for some regulation, said the Vice President. He also said that in the democracy, dissent is welcome but not disintegration and that there is no need to create such controversies and spoil the future of youngsters.

Adding further, Mr. Venkaiah Naidu indicated that students must focus on practical knowledge and academic excellence to become ideal citizens. Apart from providing quality education to students, universities across the country must develop global citizens and prepare the students for a new era, he added.

Honourable Vice President further suggested the students adopt, adapt, absorb and access new knowledge. All the students must understand the way to collaborate, compete and coordinate in different contexts. Graduating students will have to aim for efficiency and excellence and not settle for business-as-usual approach or mediocrity, stated Mr. Venkaiah Naidu.

Irrigation Minister of Telangana, Mr. T. Harish Rao suggested the students focus on working in the native country rather than going abroad. Serving the native country and paying back to the society gives ultimate happiness, he added.
