Students Oppose Sanskrit in Engineering Curriculum of Anna Univ.
Recently, Anna University landed in controversy for teaching Sanskrit Texts to engineering students. A portion of Philosophy has been incorporated into B.Tech and M.Tech courses in the third year under which, Sanskrit texts were taught. Facing the protest by the students, the University Vice-Chancellor, Mr MK Surappa has said that the university will look forward to amending the rule.
The controversy grew bigger after the Tamil Media reported that Philosophy has been made compulsory and the portions of Bhagwat Geeta and Upanishads would be taught as per the proposed curriculum.
The president of the largest opposition in Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, the president of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has sought the intervention by the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Banwarilal Purohit, who is also the chancellor of the Anna University.
