AYUSH Doctors Eligible to be Placed as Mid-Level care Providers after Completing Bridge Course
- AYUSH practitioners will have to undergo a mandatory bridge course in primary care and public health competencies.
- After the training, the AYUSH practitioners will be placed as mid-level care providers.
TheStaff NursesandAyurveda practitionerswill be placed as mid-level care providers in sub-health centres after completing a mandatory bridge course in primary care and public health competencies. After the appointment of AYUSH doctors as mid-level care providers, the sub-health centres will be transformed and strengthened into Health and Wellness centres. The official confirmation in this regard was given byMinister of State for AYUSH(Independent Charge), Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik.

Giving a written reply to Lok Sabha, Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik stated that the ministry developed aBridge Course in Community Health for Nursesin collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The bridge course will be a part of NHAM (National Health Mission), he added.
Explaining further, Mr. Shripad mentioned that a commonbridge course for Ayurvedapractitioners and nurseswas also approved byIGNOU. As per the proposal received from various states, the bridge course has been rolled out/ implemented in respective states, he confirmed.
Mr. Shripad Yesso Naik further stated that the modern systems of medicine and AYUSH have different approaches and methods of practice. There are certain or specific areas ofpublic healthwhere these systems of medicine can be functional in mutual co-existence in an integrated manner, he explained.

As per the National Policy on Indian Systems of Medicine & Homeopathy – 2002, the integration of AYUSH with the Health Care Delivery System will be possible.
Similarly, the National Health Mission aims for the mainstreaming of AYUSH. It also seeks to provide affordable, accessible and quality healthcare system with a motive to improve the existing healthcare delivery systems.
