Bangalore University Inspects Affiliated Colleges; 30 to 40% Colleges Inadequate
- Over 30 to 40 percent colleges are not complying with the norms of Bangalore University.
- These colleges might lose affiliation if they do not improve within a year.
Recently, Bangalore University has constituted inspection committees to conduct a routine inspection in colleges affiliated to the varsity. The committees have visited all the 600+ affiliated colleges and prepared an inspection report for the year 2018. The inspection report will be soon submitted to the administration of Bangalore University. As per the inspection conducted by Local Inquiry Committees, over 30-40% colleges affiliated to Bangalore University is inadequate, and the performance of these colleges is not up to the mark.

The varsity conducts an annual inspection of affiliated colleges to ensure that the colleges are progressing and are compliant. The report submitted by the inspection committees will also help the varsity during the affiliation process. In the year 2017, two colleges were de-affiliated after the inspection, while in 2016, 11 colleges lost affiliation.
There are around 25 inspection committees that comprise of academicians and university officials. These teams visit all the affiliated colleges, and the colleges are assessed on some of the following parameters/ aspects: -
- Student Performance Index
- Process or Management Index
- Faculty Index
- Infrastructure
- Faculty Programmes
- Infrastructure
This year, over 30-40% colleges will have to improve their performance to avoid de-affiliation.

The major problem with some of the colleges was non-compliance with the rules and regulations of the varsity. For instance, the colleges must display fee structure on their notice boards, but they do not do so. On the other hand, many colleges must appoint a Ph.D. holder with a minimum of 10 years experience as a principal. However, a few colleges violate the rules and do not follow basic guidelines in terms of the appointment.
