Bhopal Candidates Protest Against Irregularities During NEET Counselling

Medical aspirants in Bhopal staged a protest near Chief Minister, Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan's residence alleging irregularities during the NEET counselling process which was conducted for the admission to 94 seats in some private medical colleges across the state. According to sources, it has come to light that students created a ruckus in these colleges at the time of admissions as they were highly disappointed with the delay in the allotment and lack of proper display of the number of vacant seats in the medical colleges of the city.

The counselling committee released the mop up seat allotment list after a delay of nearly two hours on the day of counselling, ultimately, releasing a merit list of 94 candidates at around 5:30 PM in the evening. According to the students, a candidate who secured the 13th rank at the national level and 1st rank at the state level also featured in the merit list of the mop up round (state quota).

They further alleged that the names of the candidates from other states also featured in the merit list, which is contrary to the orders laid down by the Supreme Court and High Court. As per rules and regulations, only candidates from the state of Madhya Pradesh must be given preference for the admission to medical and dental courses in the state colleges. It was also reported that candidates from other states secured admission in medical colleges of Madhya Pradesh by producing fake domicile certificates.

In a recent episode, the government of Madhya Pradesh had also cancelled the admissions of few selected students in medical and dental colleges through NEET 2017. The directive was based on the rejection of the Supreme Court of the state’s plea with regard to the admission of non-domicile candidates. The apex court had given ten days time to the state government to issue a new merit list and complete the counselling process.
