Cabinet Approves Establishment of AIIMS in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh
- New AIIMS will come up at Bilaspur, located in Himachal Pradesh with an outlay of Rs. 1,350 crore.
- The premier medical institute will play a favourable role in creating a large pool of doctors, AYUSH Departments and health workers in the region.
On January 03, 2018, the Union Cabinet gave its nod for the establishment of a new campus of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The new AIIMS will come up at Bilaspur, located in Himachal Pradesh with an outlay of Rs. 1,350 crore under PMSSY (Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana). The new AIIMS in Bilaspur will have 750-bedded hospital along with a medical and nursing college. The intake of medical college will be 100, while the intake of nursing college will be 60.
The new AIIMS will be equipped with 20 super speciality and speciality departments along with 15 operation theatres. The construction works are expected to be completed in 48 months. The premier medical institute will also have allied facility services and residential complexes on the pattern of AIIMS New Delhi.

Another major highlight for the new AIIMS at Bilaspur will be an AYUSH Department with 30 beds for treatment in the traditional system of medicine. The premier medical institute will play a favourable role in creating a large pool of doctors and health workers in the region.
In 2015, the central government gave the nod for the establishment of AIIMS in Andhra Pradesh. The land for the construction of AIIMS was acquired at Mangalagiri, which is very close to the capital of AP, Amaravati.

However, the construction works never took off due to lack of funds from the central government. Except for the foundation wall, the construction of the building is not commenced yet. Last year, the officials associated with government revealed that they would begin the functioning of AIIMS through a temporary campus from 2018.
