The board issued a circular to this effect on Thursday, 2nd February 2017, and directed all the schools under its ambit that are offering the course to move their students to the main curriculum when the current season comes to an end.

The move will have a great impact on 76 schools, both in India and abroad. Out of these 76 schools, 50 schools are from India and remaining 26 schools are from United Arab Emirates, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Nepal and offer Gulf countries that offer the curriculum. It was a less expensive course and alternative to International General Certificate of Secondary Education and International Baccalaureate (IB).

MK Srivastava, Joint Secretary, Research and Academic Training In-charge, issued the notice citing the reasons for discontinuation of the programme. Under the notification, CBSE-affiliated schools offering the CBSE-i curriculum have been directed to discontinue the course from 2017-18. One of the teachers of the school said that they have shifted the children back to the main curriculum, but luckily they are saved from the problem as they were teaching the curriculum in the primary section only.
