CBSE’s Udaan Initiative Helps 135 Girls to Clear JEE Mains 2017

Project Udaan launched by the CBSE has helped 135 girls to crack the JEE Main 2017 exam for admission in engineering programmes. The scheme was launched to assist female students in the preparation of competitive exams along with school education.
Under this scheme, girl students who have scored overall 70% or above along with 80% marks in mathematics and science are provided government assistance in clearing JEE Main exam. The recipients are provided with free of cost tutorials, mentors to guide them and study material for the exam.
CBSE has also conducted virtual contact classes in 60 cities chosen for imparting training. Student learning and query handling was monitored by the education board with the help of helpline services.
The objective of the project is to encourage girls to pursue higher education in the field of science and mathematics. All the necessary training and guidance is provided to prepare the shortlisted girls for JEE Main exam.
RK Chaturvedi, Chairman of CBSE, said that the initiative is backed by technology in order to ease the learning process for aspiring students. Tablets with study material and essential mobile applications are also provided to girl students so that they don’t have to leave their home for preparation.

In 2016, Udaan helped 143 girls in qualifying the JEE Main exam. Chaturvedi added that the participation of girl students in engineering entrance exams was much lower than that of boys.
He added that more than 75% of the total students applying for the exam are boys. The initiative also aims to increase the number of girls enrolling for technical education.

The scheme provides assistance only to the students who have an annual family income of less than Rs. 6 lakh. Subject experts, experienced teachers as well as students on IITs will mentor the girl students and encourage them to clear the exam.
