Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) Yet to Implement Web Enabled System

In 2006, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), Indore announced its noble intention to go paperless in all its official proceedings and student dealings, but even after a decade, the proposal remains a distant dream, with the university still working on its old methods of pen and paper. It was an ambitious project, where DAVV had decided that its operations will be managed through a niche web management system to carry out its day-to-day proceedings.

However, the project witnessed some progress last year when the former Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Ashutosh Mishra took up the matter with the concerned officials of Department of Higher Education (DHE) Government of Madhya Pradesh.

Ambitious automation project has run into inordinate delay because of several factors:

• Frequent change of Vice Chancellors at DAVV - A total of 4 VC's have served office since the decision and it is yet to be implemented
• No suitable partner to lead the project
• Lack of coordination between the departments concerned

The automation system was aimed to keep online records of students, affiliated colleges of the university, teaching departments, besides integration of technology into examination system. Automation of the university is the brainchild of the Department of Higher Education. It had sought proposal for automation from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) on 'build-own-operation' model following which the DAVV had proposed web-based management system.

There are multiple functions of Web-Based Management system (WBMS):

• WBMS will arm the university with multiple advanced applications
• Applications would reduce the workload
• WBMS will enhance the speed up the official work

But with the appointment of Prof. N K Dhakad as new Vice-Chancellor of the university, the proposal has again gone into oblivion. While commenting on the project, Prof Dhakad said that he will review the progress of the proposal and expedite the process. He said that this is a long pending project of DSVV and needs to be followed-up with the officials of the Department of Higher Education (DHE) in Bhopal.
