Degree Colleges in Telangana Face Shortage of Faculty
In most of the colleges, there are only three to four lecturers.
Most of the degree colleges in Telangana do not have enough faculty and the students are facing many problems as classes are not being held regularly. There are 143 government and 127 private aided colleges in the state. In most of the colleges, there are only three to four lecturers. These colleges have maximum number of students, and there is no proper faculty - student ratio. On the other hand, around 10-12 lecturers are working in those colleges which have less than a strength of hundred.

It is a typical situation where most of the lecturers are working in those colleges which have less number of students. The government has failed to maintain proper teacher-student ratio in these colleges.
The government has not taken any steps to rationalise the faculty according to the students’ strength. On the other hand, the government did not fill the vacant lecturer positions in most of the colleges, through any procedures whatsoever. It had appointed contract lecturers just to fill up the position. Most of the private aided college managements are unable to pay salaries to lecturers and are ultimately facing financial crisis.

The government is taking steps to provide world-class education to the students. However, it has to take necessary steps for the rationalising of faculty-student ratio, as the former without the latter is impossible.
