Delhi Govt. Ropes in IIM-A to Provide Training to Govt. School Principals

The Government of Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which the premier management institute of the country will provide training to the principals of the schools in Delhi so as to capacitate them to function in the line of experienced professional heads of educational institutions.

Directorate of Education, Delhi, runs around 1,024 schools across the state and the heads of these schools will be greatly benefited from the MoU.

More Details about the MoU:

• Under the MoU, all principals of the schools will undergo an intensive course
• IIM-A will administer the training programme
• Training programme would span over a period of 18 months
• Sessions will be conducted at IIMA's Right to Education Resource Centre

This is not for the first time such efforts have been undertaken. Even in the past, Delhi Government had been in collaboration with other institutes and universities for improvement of the national capital’s government school education system. So far, Delhi Govt. Education department has worked with following institutes -

• Great Britain-based University of Cambridge
• Singapore-based, National Institute of Education

These heads of schools functioning under the Directorate of Education have the rich wealth of experience in managing schools. They will be greatly benefited by their professional training in leadership especially in the domain of school education.

Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, also holds an education portfolio and said that principals are the main pillars of every school. He added that they are the main leaders and it is very important to strengthen their skillset. Delhi Government is serious about building capacities and skills of all principals and teachers working in Government schools. This step will go a long way towards upgrading the way individual school managements function.

Besides that, the Delhi Government has also undertaken several steps to improve the quality of the school education in Delhi. This includes -

• Narrowing learning deficits
• Improving the teaching-learning methodology
