It is not every day that we get to hear about incredible individuals such as theDelhi University Vice-Chancellor(VC) Yogesh Tyagi who is taking just Re. 1 as salary for fulfilling his roles towards the university. Although this news was known to many sources withinDUsince the time VC Tyagi started his term, HRD Ministry confirmed it in theParliament sessionon April 12, 2018.
TheHRD Ministrywas questioned in the parliament whether or not the VC ofDelhi Universityhas submitted his PAN Card and Aadhaar details. The ministry was also asked whether the VC had received thesalaryduring his tenure of service. To this, the HRD Ministry replied that VC Tyagi has submitted the Aadhaar and PAN card details and that he had chosen to take just Re. 1 as salary.

The Ministry was also asked whether theDU VChas paid any income tax on the salary that he has been receiving. To this, the HRD Ministry replied that according to the income tax rules, the TDS is deducted from each employee’s salary.
Tyagi started office as the Vice-Chancellor of theUniversity of Delhiin March 2016 and it was he who proposed to take just Re. 1 as salary for the role. The information was confirmed by the HRD Ministry this week in its response to the Parliament. However, the registrar and deputy registrar did not comment on the matter.

Yogesh Tyagi was earlier part of theSouth Asian Universitythat is administered by theMinistry of External Affairs. He later joined Delhi University on deputation basis.
