DRDO to Establish Research Cell at IIT Hyderabad for Defence Technological Requirments
The new research cell will be established as the DRDO Research and Innovation Centre (RIC), Chennai, extension and will also act as the centre of excellence for conducting research on future defence technological needs.
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has decided to establish a research cell at IIT Hyderabad. The decision has been made by DRDO to meet the defence technological requirements of the country in future. The DRDO IITH Research Cell will be conducting the applied research on various identified areas of technology. The new research cell will be established as the DRDO Research and Innovation Centre (RIC), Chennai, extension and will also act as the centre of excellence for conducting research on future defence technological needs.
The MoU for IITH research centre was signed during an event organised at the DRDO office located in Hyderabad where various IITH and DRDO officials were invited. The director of Directorate of Futuristic Technology Management (DFTM), DRDO, K.K. Pathak, the distinguished scientist and director-general of missiles and strategic systems (MSS), DRDO, MSR Prasad and the professor & director of IITH, BS Murthy signed the MoU.

As per the officials of DRDO and IITH, the new research centre will conduct applied research on not only the fundamental science but also on the indigenous solutions for future defence requirements of the country. The various research areas on which IITH research cell focus on including Quantum Technology, Advanced Material and Processing, Defence Application Sensors, space application technologies, image processing, adaptive optics, etc.
