Apart from software jobs, the core engineering sectors are offering jobs in water conservation, irrigation, research and teaching areas. Considering the multiple careers in the engineering sector, many engineering students are reluctant to choose jobs in the software sector. Jobs in the above-mentioned fields are possible only if students go for higher studies in engineering rather than settling with a B.Tech degree.

The trend of an increase in the demand for higher studies in engineering was clearly visible in TS PGECET 2018. Among the various branches of engineering - civil engineering, electrical, electronics and communications engineering and mechanical engineering emerged as the most sought-after courses in Telangana.

Japala Anusha who secured the first rank in the civil engineering stream has been eagerly waiting for the results of AEE (Assistant Executive Engineer) examination conducted by Telangana Public Service Commission (TSPSC). She wanted to become an engineer in her core branch of study rather than choosing a software job. Working in water management and irrigation area were her chosen interests. With a motive to enhance her knowledge in the domain, she had appeared for TS PGECET 2018 for the admission to PG course.

G. Sai Sumanth Reddy, the son of the family is planning to pursue Ph.D. after his post graduation in civil engineering. Instead of getting a software job, he wants to secure a job in irrigation area.

P Mounika, a B.Tech graduate from Osmania University wanted to go for higher studies in her core area of engineering rather than settling for a job in the Information Sector.

Kurella Abhigna who was the topper of Electronics and Communications course pursued her B.Tech ECE from RGKUT Basara. Instead of going for a job, she wanted to explore her interest in the sub-branch of signal processing and associated fields.

This year, 1,209 candidates cleared TS PGECET 2018 exam. Civil engineering stream emerged as the top stream with large number of candidates qualifying in the same.
