Fewer Regulations for Top-Rated B.Ed Colleges: HRD Ministry

The Ministry of Human Resource and Development has confirmed that top-rated B.Ed colleges, i.e., the colleges with five-star rating will have fewer regulations. All the top-rated B.Ed colleges will be out of the regime of National Council for Teacher Education or NCTE. These will be accredited and recognised. However, NCTE will not carry out usual inspection for the top-performing colleges. HRD Ministry’s major objective is to revamp the teachers’ training in the country by bringing out major changes. For this purpose, NCTE will start ranking the teaching training institutes across the country. According to sources, NCTE and HRD Ministry are in plans to release the list of top 100 B.Ed colleges by January 2018.

An official associated with NCTE revealed that there will be five sets of rating to each college and the colleges with top-notch performance and rating will have to furnish the prescribed documents. NCTE will not conduct any further inspection for the top rated colleges. However, these colleges must furnish the prescribed documents annually.

It is time for the government to revamp the teacher training education in the country. Recently, the Central Bureau of Investigation filed criminal complaints against various B.Ed colleges in South India after finding discrepancies in the documents submitted to NCTE. These colleges neither had proper infrastructure nor proper land records.

NCTE will also launch a website in the first week of August. Private colleges across the country can place orders for NCERT textbooks through this new website. NCTE will release more details regarding the website soon.
