FTII to Approach Prasar Bharati for Screening Diploma Films Made by the Students
If the ministry gives a positive response, the screening of films will come with immediate effect.
The Governing Council of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has taken the decision to approach Doordarshan regarding the screening of diploma films made by the students. The same practice was prevalent years ago. Similarly, the films and documentaries made by the students of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata will also get a slot with Doordarshan.
The Director of FTII, Mr. Gajendra Chauhan raised the idea during the GC meeting held on July 5, 2016, at Films Division, Mumbai. He said that screening of the films and documentaries made by the students might prove to be fruitful. At the meeting, a proposal had been made to launch a new channel by Prasar Bharathi for screening these films/documentaries.

Mr. Gajendra said that there is a dilemma whether to launch a new channel or to allot specific time for the screening of diploma films on Doordarshan. The screening will start in no time if the ministry accepts the proposal. He assured that they would do their best to get acceptance from ministry as early as possible.
According to the sources, Doordarshan used to screen diploma films some years ago and stopped it due to unknown reasons. The diploma films of new and old students were screened. In the year 2008, Loksabha TV had telecasted 15 students’ films under the section ‘First Cut’.
