Girls not to Visit Boys of Other Classes during Recess: Mangaluru’s St Aloysius College

Mangaluru’s St Aloysius Pre University College has hit the controversial nerve of social media followers by announcing a new set of rules. Students have taken to social media platforms to protest against the new regulations that have rules such as that girls are not allowed to interact with boys from other classes during breaks.

An orientation was also given to the students regarding these new set of rules last week. The rules were also uploaded by one of the alumni on social media.

According to the rules, students cannot party or go to pubs. Girl students are not allowed to leave the campus for having lunch outside. Girls are not allowed to apply henna without having prior permission from the class guide. Girls are not allowed to tie their hair in buns. Single girl talking to a group of boys or single boy talking to a group of girls is prohibited. There are several other rules as well.

Contradicting the social media posts, Rev Fr Melwyn Mendonca, Principal of the college had said that no discriminatory rules have been enforced on the students. College authorities are calling the posts false and are also planning to file a cybercrime report.

The principal also informed that the orientation was aimed at informing the students about the rules in the college that only ask them to maintain discipline and decent behavior. After the elopement of a student, many parents requested the college authorities to tighten the rules and discipline, added the principal. The principal also said that parents were content with the rules and no objections were filed.

St Aloysius College is governed by Jesuits priests. It is a co-education institution that was established 27 years ago.
