GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council) has officially announced that the length of GMAT exam would be shortened by 30 minutes. The decision has been taken to create the best possible testing experience for the candidates and offer user-friendly features. The revised GMAT exam will be of 3½ hour duration and it will be available for all the test takers across the globe from April 16, 2018.

Even though the duration and length of the GMAT are reduced, the quality of the exam will have no effect. The quality of GMAT exam will remain unchanged in terms of integrity, security, validity and reliability. On the other hand, the scores of GMAT will be same even after incorporating changes. Therefore, the candidates need not worry about the revised pattern of GMAT exam.

Senior Director of Product Management for GMAC, Mr. Vineet Chabra revealed that they are figuring out ways to streamline the test experience and build confidence in the candidates. The major motive of the GMAC is to enable comfortable atmosphere to the candidates on the day of the exam, he added.

New Changes in GMAT Exam: -

  • The duration of the GMAT exam has been reduced by 30 minutes by streamlining two longer sections of the exam including Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative sections.
  • GMAC has reduced the number of research and less scored questions in these two sections.
  • Similarly, various tutorials and instruction screens that test-takers witness at the test centre have also been simplified.
  • Along with these changes, GMAC is offering a new online tutorial that mimics the screens at the exam centre on the exam day. This process will further enhance and streamline the test-taking experience.
  • All the candidates must note that there are no changes in the Integrated Reasoning and Analytical Writing sections of the GMAT.
  • Question types, the content of the exam and average time per question will remain same.

GMAC practice questions and practice exams/ mock exams are available on the official website for the benefit of the candidates. However, the updated practice tools will be available by the end of the April.

The GMAT exam will become more candidate-friendly with the changes as mentioned above.
