Goa: CM Supports Establishment of IIT at Loliem
CM Laxmikanth Parsekar has requested the teachers to educate the media and villagers on the project stating that premier institutes like IITs and NITs are a boon to the education sector.
Recently, a group of villagers at Loliem village in Canacona Taluk resisted the establishment of Indian Institute of Technology in their region. The HRD Ministry has promised to construct an additional water tank for the villagers as they indicated that the village has been facing water shortage. However, villagers have been resisting the establishment of IIT.
Finally, Chief Minister of Goa, Laxmikanth Parsekar responded on the issue and advised the teachers to educate the villagers and suggested them to speak in favour of such institutes which are a boon for the education sector. He indicated that people who resist the project do not have complete idea or information about it.

He questioned the media on why it has been projecting the issue as an opposition. He asked the media to specify the reason for the same.
There was a similar opposition towards the establishment of National Institute of Technology at Cuncolim village where a section of people resisted it. Hence, the CM has requested the teachers to educate the media and villagers on the project, stating that premier institutes like IITs and NITs are a boon to the education sector. He mentioned that NGOs must play a significant role in supporting these institutes instead of unnecessary interference and resistance.
He also mentioned that Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) has granted Rs. 10.98 crore to 19 colleges. Goa University has been granted Rs. 54.85 lakh for the development of infrastructure and other facilities.
