As the placement season 2016 continues, the hiring trends have been witnessing drastic shift. Reversing all the statistics of the previous years, hiring in the business-to-business (B2B) segment has grown by 32% in the past six months due to the introduction of newer technologies. Whereas, business-to-consumer (B2C), as well as e-commerce hiring, has dropped drastically.

B2B segment has been able to match the expectations of candidates hence it has grown considerably, said Vijay Sharma, CEO and Co-founder of talent solutions company Belong. B2B offers jobs in specialized segments such as analytics and product development that are popular among their consumers.

Sharma also informed that hiring in the B2C domain has dropped by 61% in the past six months as a result of internal restructuring of teams and mergers that are taking place. The B2C sector hired aggressively last year and has taken a step back this year to contemplate their next step for future growth.

Keeping the junior level positions closed, the B2C segment has been involved in strategic hiring to fill its leadership positions.

On the contrary, Sunil Goel, MD, GlobalHunt India, said that there will be a big dip in B2C hiring as the market has been growing but there will be 50 to 60 percent drop in the recruitments done by e-commerce and retail industry as compared to 2015.

Goel stated that over-hiring of resources and cushioning of PE firms done by the companies in an attempt to increase valuation is the reason why there will be fewer recruitments done by these companies.

Mohit Bharti, Director of Michael Page India Associate also said that hiring in the e-commerce and start-up sector will decline but the other B2C verticals will remain more or less the same. He said that due to consolidation within the e-commerce industry hiring will probably go down by 10 to 15 percent but it will not affect the growth of the industry.

B2B section, on the other hand, requires resources and manpower to provide industry-specific solutions in order to set a smooth flow of work.
