History Syllabus at Delhi University Changes Mid- Semester
Students stressed after DU history syllabus changes after two months in first semester.
After passing of two months of the very first semester in college, the syllabus for students of Delhi University first year has been changed. Though in some cases the change is not a lot, but in case of others like generic elective (GE) course, the entire syllabus has been revised.
Students who have not opted for history as their honour programme were provided with the above mentioned GE course as a part of the choice-based credit system (CBCS).

According to a history teacher at Delhi University, this move is not welcomed by many. It was pointed out that not only the time of the students has been wasted but also students have now been discouraged from taking up history GE in the future. Due to the change in syllabus, BA Programme history papers and reading lists have been revised.
According to Upinder Singh, head of the history department, the changes that have been introduced in the syllabus now, were long pending as the department was thinking about making these changes since 2014. He also said that this is a short term problem and will be taken care of in the coming future.
He pointed out that the new syllabus will be beneficial in the future and has been worked upon by teachers and members of the department for seven-eight months.

Singh added that the new revised syllabus was to be implemented in the month of July itself but was not formally notified until last week.
In the month of August, the suggestions made by the academic council were thought upon and many of them were implemented, including the decisions regarding changing the books in Hindi medium and adding from other Indian authors relevant to the contents of the various courses.
