HP High Court Issues Notice to MMMC, Solan for Denying Admissions to Students
Himachal Pradesh High Court issued a notice in regard to a petition filed by several students. These students have been allegedly denied admission by a medical college.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Friday, 16th September 2016, issued a notice in regard to a petition filed by several students. These students have been allegedly denied admission by a medical college.
A division bench of the court comprising Justices Chander Bhusan Barowalia and Dharam Chand Chaudhary also directed the respondents to file their reply by September 20.

The court issued a notice to the following respondents:
- State Government of Himachal Pradesh
- Union Health Secretary
- Maharshi Markendeshwar Medical College (MMMC), Kumarhatti (Solan)
- Medical Council of India
The students alleged that Maharshi Markendeshwar Medical College (MMMC) had not given admission to them as per the merit list prepared through the centralised counselling on the basis of NEET. They pleaded that the matter be resolved as classes in other medical colleges have already commenced.
The college had refused admission to the students who reached the college on 8th September after the centralised counselling was over. Later on, the merit list was sent to Maharshi Markendeshwar Medical College , but the college authorities “shunned” the MBBS aspirants, leaving them in a doldrum. Earlier the college had requested the government to hike the fee by 50 per cent for the seats under the government.

Already, the government had fixed a very high fee of Rs 5 lakh per annum for government quota seats, which is almost ten times more than the existing fee in government medical colleges. But the state government turned down the request of the college for the hike in fee. The government said that it was not possible after publication of the prospectus, and asked the college to immediately start admissions or face action.
MMMC is affiliated to Maharshi Markendeshwar University as a “consequent” college of the university. But the government has made it clear in the essentiality certificate that the college would be affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU).
